how to buy a gun online

If you are new to firearms or even if you have been around them for any length of time, you may wonder what it takes to be successful at buying a gun online. One of the questions many people have is: “Can I purchase a firearm online and how do I buy a gun online?” These are great started questions and they also are great general questions that every firearm enthusiast may want to know the answer to. Most often these are secondary questions because many people have no idea if they can buy a gun online legally and safely. The answer to both of these questions is also, Yes! It is both legal and safe to buy a gun online. The actual process is much easier than you may imagine too. Before you think that this is a grey area that criminals use to obtain a gun, think again. It’s not a loophole in the law, it legal because it is governed under federal law with state and local laws having certain regulations in place to protect and make the transactions safe.

As you think about buying your first gun online, you need to take a look at and understand the federal laws and how the gun is purchased. The purchase can be done in-store or online. The seller can be a firearms store or a private transaction. With a private sale, the gun would have to be shipped to a local gun shop where you would complete all the required paperwork. Keep in mind that certain states have other laws that need to be followed as well as the federal laws. So, when you buy a handgun online, or any firearm for that matter, the gun will be shipped to someone who is known as a Federal-Firearm Licensee. (FFL) The basics are the FFL will do the background checks. Next, the gun will be offered to you for a transfer. You will pick the gun up in person from the FFL and you will fill out all of the forms that the ATF requires.

There are several FFL’s in your area that may work with you. Having said that you can apply for your own FFL if you want to do so and have the gun shipped directly to you. This is not a process everyone wants to undertake, however. Once you know where the firearm will be going, you can arrange the transfer. The basics of this are to tell them you are buying a firearm and want to have it shipped to them and that you will be using them as your FFL. They will instruct you what to do next. Once the process is started you can purchase the gun online. Once you confirm that the seller has the proper paperwork from the FFL, they can ship the gun and you can pick it up from the store. It’s really a simple process.
