Product Name: BCY 452X Custom Compound Bow String
Basic Description:
It’s a pre-stretched bow string made from BCY 452X material, which is made from 67% SK75 Dyneema® and 33% Vectran. I do like the speed and stability, so no complaints there. It looks sharp too.
The string has a Powergrip center serving that feels great and grips well. The string itself is clearly made to a higher quality standard than the mass-produced junk out there. I heard 60X makes their strings individually, and I trust Brad Patsy, so I decided to give 60X a try.
I wasn’t expecting much, but I definitely made the right decision. It feels rock solid, and I’m very satisfied with the performance boost (I’ll talk more about that later). This string also solved some tuning issues I’d been experiencing, and the bow just feels better to shoot all around.
While the look of my bow isn’t super important to me, I’m actually really impressed with the colors. They look even better in person. They give you a ton of color options. You get to choose two twisted colors for the string and another color for the center serving.
What else can I say? It’s a great string. If you’re reading this, you’re probably already familiar with the basic details. It does the job, and it does it really well. ‘Nuff said.
Just the Facts:
I went with a custom 2 cam string in camo and tan with a fluorescent orange serving (64 5/8 inches). While most of my shooting happens in the backyard, I do go on the occasional hunting trip, and the hunting look matches my camo bow, so I figured I’d go all-in with it.
I added the optional speed nok. I’m not sure if the speed nok deserves the credit or the string (maybe a combination of both), but the chronograph shows that I’ve gained a few fps. I was mainly upgrading my bow string in the hopes of fixing some performance and tuning problems, but I’m certainly not complaining about the velocity increase.
As far as performance goes, I couldn’t be happier. I was dealing with peep twists and cam lean, and it was driving me up the wall. I’m beyond thrilled to report that those issues seem to be in the past. I’ve shot 300+ arrows and haven’t had any of the old problems (knock on wood).
The string seems to be incredibly reliable too. They come pre-stretched, and I haven’t noticed any extra stretching whatsoever. No separation either. The string is still doing its job just as well as the day I installed it. All in all, I have nothing negative to say about this string. It did everything I wanted and more. Bravo, 60X.
Story:
I’m the type of person who refuses to settle for less. If I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it right or not at all. I spent some big bucks on my bow, and after a few months, it wasn’t delivering the performance I wanted. I wasn’t sure the issues were being caused by wear and tear or if I had gotten a lemon, but I knew I had to do something about it.
I was thinking about replacing it and starting from scratch, but I decided I’d see if a new string could do anything before I chuck the thing. It’s now performing better than it did the day I got it. I didn’t think upgrading my bow string could produce such impressive results, but it makes sense now that I think of it. I mean, the string is the heart of the bow. You’re not going to be doing much shooting without it!
I’m not a professional archer by any means, but I do take pride in my shooting. I’ve noticed that I’m getting tighter groupings, and I feel like my bow can finally grow with me instead of holding me back. That’s huge. If you’re having bow struggles like I was, I can’t recommend 60X enough.
What They Could Do Better:
I have no complaints. Sure, a lifetime warranty would be nice, but a 1-year warranty is still generous. I wouldn’t have minded getting my string faster, but these are individually custom-made, so waiting a few days for it to be ready is more than reasonable, and they shipped it out the same day it was finished.
I’ll be honest—I’m not the most technically savvy person when it comes to string specifications and whatnot. I had some questions I needed answered before placing my order. I was worried I’d have to wait forever and a day for a response, but I was able to talk to someone through the live chat on the website, and they were extremely helpful. Smooth experience.
I was a little hesitant to place my order because they don’t offer refunds for bow strings. I completely get it. They’re making custom strings, after all. Not exactly something you can resell. In hindsight, it didn’t matter because the string surpassed my expectations in every way. Just make sure you give them all of the right specs and measurements and whatnot when ordering your string because once you buy it, it’s yours.
Long story short, I couldn’t be happier with my upgrade. I’ll definitely be back if I need a new string, which I assume will only be necessary if I get a new bow!
